The Greenbelt is Saved!
Today is a great day. After a year of fighting, the Greenbelt has been spared, thanks to the hard work and efforts of all of you in Beaches - East York and thousands of other engaged Ontarians across the province. The work is far from over but for today we can celebrate knowing that the people do have the power!
In case you missed it, Ford announced yesterday that he will be backtracking on the $8.3 billion dollar Greenbelt land swap, calling it a "mistake". This was no mistake. This was a corrupt deal to make Ford's already-rich friends that much richer. He is not sorry he did it, he is sorry he got caught.
This government continues to prove that they have no real compassion or care for our environment and for the people of Ontario who are facing the effects of the climate crisis head-on. BUT this win has proven that they will listen when we're loud enough. Let's keep making noise!
My office and I had been planning a Save the Greenbelt Rally at East Lynn Park on October 14 at 11am. We've decided we still want to get together but as a CELEBRATION. So, you're invited to our We Saved the Greenbelt Party on October 14 at 11am at East Lynn Park (1949 Danforth Ave). Expect music, speakers, kids crafts, climate conversations, and fun!
